AACN/EBI Nursing Education Assessment Quotes

“We use the EBI assessment as one source of data in determining the degree to which we are achieving our BSN program outcomes. We add additional assessment items that allow us to collect information to be used in internal and external report development and grant writing. Faculty use the EBI data to make decisions related to knowledge sequencing, selection of teaching pedagogies that will emphasize targeted course competencies, and configuration of learning experiences. Data also help faculty understand factors that might impact student learning. We evaluate the information gained from the EBI every other year. As part of this evaluation we complete a needs assessment that includes a cost-benefit analysis and continue to find that our participation in the EBI assessment process meets our needs as well as providing us with valuable data at a reasonable cost.”

Donna L. Boland, PhD, RN Associate Dean – Evaluation - School of Nursing, Indiana University (Participant since 2002)

”The Georgia Southern University School of Nursing was an inaugural member of the EBI assessment for nursing graduates. Our longitudinal outcome data collection and analysis has been greatly enhanced with the information we have obtained since we began using EBI's services. We are now able to track our graduates' perceptions and experiences with our ongoing outcome expectations, curriculum and policy revisions, and other factors influencing student learning in our programs. It has been particularly helpful for faculty to be able to compare our data with that of our peer and aspiring schools. Over time, we have been able to use our findings to evaluate our programs' effectiveness and decide on additional changes based on reliable and longitudinal information rather than on single experiences of individual classes. The prompt responsiveness of EBI staff, the ease of access to our data via electronic transmission, and the thoroughness of information gained from the EBI analysis make use of this product an affordable must for our school.

Jean Bartels, PhD, RN – Chair, School of Nursing, Georgia Southern University (Participant since 2002)
